Arrival and Car Parking

On arriving at the hotel, visiting guests should use the car park located directly in front of the hotel building entrance. Or alternatively, guests can use the additional parking facilities, which are atop a steep slope near to the primary car park. Both of these car parks are tarmacced.

There are 2 parking spaces immediately outside the hotel entrance, which can be reserved for disabled visitors.

There is a third car park at road level on entering the hotel driveway. This car park is recommended for use only if the other two are full, or if bad weather conditions prevent a vehicle from climbing the moderately steep slope leading up to the hotel.

There are 93 steps leading up to the hotel from road level. There is a handrail at one side. The climb can be avoided by parking directly outside the hotel.

There is 1 step leading into the porch of the main entrance and a further 2 steps from the porch to the reception area. Wheelchair ramps can be requested to assist access. The main entrance has two sets of double doors, which creates a portal 3ft 9” wide when the doors are fully extended. Hotel staff offers assistance with luggage or equipment from 8am until midnight.

Main Entrance and Reception

The reception desk is straight ahead on entering the front doors. It is usually staffed but has an electronic bell for requesting service. The reception desk is 3ft 6” high.

A check-in card will be presented which can be completed on the reception desk, or with the aid of staff. This is available in large print and contrasting colours.

The reception area and two adjoining lounges have many small coffee tables, comfortable chairs and sofas. Furniture can be re-arranged on request. The reception area has a polished oak floor.

Wireless Internet is available throughout the ground floor of the hotel. There are no steps to either of the lounges, dining room or function room. But there is a small descending step 1.75” high, which leads to the conservatory bar. Which is located to the left of the reception desk.

The dining room, function room, lounges and conservatory bar are all located on the ground floor and all have excellent views of Lake Windermere.

There is a public telephone immediately outside of the function suite, there are two steps leading up to it. If this cannot be reached, a member of staff may permit guests to make a call from the reception desk.

Toilets

There are two sets of toilets on the ground floor. The main toilets can be accessed from the reception area through a short hallway. There is an accessible toilet present, which is spacious and contains handrails.

The second set is connected to the function suite and is not recommended for wheelchair users as it has a narrow corridor and insufficient space.

Conservatory Bar

The conservatory bar has one small step at its entrance. Service can be requested by using an electric bell at the right end of the bar when staff are not present.

Table service is available and wine and price lists can be requested in large print or contrasting colours. The bar itself is 3ft 7” high and drinks tables are 1ft 6” high.

Lounges

The Library and Drawing room are to the left of the reception desk. There are no steps or incline leading to the lounges. Both of the lounges have wifi available and house fireplaces.

Dining Room

There are no steps or slopes en-route to the dining room from the reception area. Menus are available in large print and contrasting colours. The dining tables are 2ft 5” high. Dietary requirements can be catered for but we recommend informing us as soon as possible.

Natural light is used where possible. Evening lighting is dim and candles are placed on the tables. Lighting can be increased or dimmed where required.

Function Suite

The Lonsdale Suite is a large function room and is located down the main corridor after passing the dining room. It seats 120 people for a seated meal.

Large chandeliers throughout the room, as well as natural sunlight through large windows provide lighting.

There is a bar near the entrance, which is 3ft 6” high. Tables are 2ft 5” high.

Function menus are available in large print or in contrasting colours with prior notice. Dietary requirements can be catered for with prior notice.

The function room has access to a set of toilets. These toilets have narrow access. The main ground floor toilets are nearby and offer more space and an accessible toilet.

The Lonsdale Suite contains three fire exits. One of which has a gentle wheelchair slope, yet steps must be climbed down to reach the fire assembly point.

Equipment such as large screens and projectors are available on request. A microphone is not necessary due to the room’s acoustic design.

Outside Areas

The front terrace is immediately outside of the Lonsdale Suite. It has outdoor furniture. It can be accessed from two steps leading down from the Lonsdale Suite, or by a narrow gravel path from the main car park.

The far terrace is to the right of the set of steps leading to the main car park. It can be accessed by a gentle slope leading down with handrails.

First & Second Floors

Visitors can reach the first floor by climbing a set of 24 steps located close to the reception desk and main entrance. Three rooms are easily accessible from the first floor landing.

Rooms 4 – 12 can be accessed by following a corridor, which at its most narrow is 2ft 7” wide.

Rooms 14 – 17 can be accessed by entering a narrow corridor which branches off from the main. This corridor is 2ft 3” wide at its narrowest point.

A steep set of stairs must be climbed to reach the second floor, which contains rooms 18 – 21. These last four rooms are within a short corridor which measures 2ft 3” at its narrowest.

Bedrooms

All bedrooms at the Merewood Hotel are en-suite. All contain an information folder, which is available in large print with prior notice. This informs the guest of emergency telephone numbers, evacuation procedure and details on how to order room service. Room folders also give local information and telephone numbers, a wine list and a daily snack menu.

All bedrooms contain shower/bathing facilities, fitted hair dryers, tea and coffee making facilities, digital television sets and telephones.
